The buzz about the Star Wars releases just keeps coming. The first-ever live-action T.V. show comes out in November, Star Wars will be releasing a new video game only a few days later, and in December is the conclusion to the newest installments to the Star Wars saga, The Rise of Skywalker. This year has been exciting for Star Wars fans all over the galaxy and it keeps getting better. One of the most loved characters in all of the movies, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) is going to return to the screen with his very own T.V. show for Disney+.
Obi-Wan Kenobi was promised a movie back in 2017 and fans went wild. The Star Wars team had unfortunately decided to change that around and release Solo: A Star Wars Story and this movie didn’t receive the best box-office reviews. Overall it was much better than a lot of the other Disney produced films, but it wasn’t anything fantastic. Finally, Obi-Wan will get the center stage to show off his legendary Jedi status. The show has no official release dates, but it will start filming next year and the scripts are written for the first season.
The show is set to take place 8 years after Revenge of the Sith where we saw Anakin turn to the dark side and Obi-Wan take Luke Skywalker to his family’s home planet on Tatooine. The exact plot has not been released yet, but we can expect to see him wield his lightsaber and use the force. A show solely about the legendary Jedi Master that Obi-Wan has become will be interesting in itself to see. He was the first Jedi in thousands of years to kill a sith and sliced off most of Anakin’s limbs. It’s fair to say that he is one of the deadliest forces in the entire galaxy.
The cast is still undetermined, except of course for Ewan McGregor who will play Obi-Wan Kenobi. There are rumors that Joel Edgarton, the actor who played the young Uncle Owen will be returning to the Star Wars screen and reprise his role.
A director has been chosen for the show, too. Her name is Deborah Chow and she has directed some of the episodes of the Mandalorian. She has tons of other experience, Better Call Saul, Jessica Jones, and American Gods to just name a few. The director of the show will be a great addition to McGregor and make the third live-action Disney+ show a hit.
McGregor is already loved by Star Wars fans everywhere for his excellent portrayal of the young Obi-Wan Kenobi that was first played by Alec Guinness in 1977. The relationship that Kenobi had built with Anakin was clearly shown through-out the prequel movies and gives us a clear explanation of why Ben Kenobi had turned into a war-torn hermit that protects and eventually trains Luke Skywalker.
One of the greatest Jedi masters of all time is finally getting his own T.V. show and personally, I believe this one will be one of the best Star Wars productions in a long time. McGregor is a fantastic actor who looks like he will be able to carry the show when the directors or writers can’t. He played the role of Anakin’s master so well, we saw them grow with each other and could feel the heartbreak at the end of Revenge of the Sith. It will be interesting to see where life after Order 66 has taken him and what his role in the galaxy has become. Do you think we’ll see him connect with Qui-Gon Jin like Yoda told him was possible in Revenge of the Sith? Will we see him become Ben Kenobi? Or will that be his new identity as soon as he moves into the planet? Hopefully, some answers will be answered by Disney and the Kenobi series team.
